Light a Candle 2018

"Realizing Our Vision for Our Children"
This year's Children's Sabbath celebration will be Sunday October 21, 2018.

The Light a Candle Prayer Vigil
uses a different focus scripture each week related to the overall theme as we prepare for Children's Sabbath. You may follow along each day with us online as daily reflections are posted. The devotions will begin Monday, September 24, 2018.

Weekly Scriptures
We encourage you to reflect on these scriptures in prayer. Find ways to share them with the children around you, and embrace them as you move into action on behalf of all God's children.

Week of September 24, Matthew 18:1-5, Be a Vision of Greatness!
At that time the disciples came to Jesus and asked, “Who is the greatest in the kingdom of
heaven?” He called a child, whom he put among them, and said, “Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.Whoever becomes humble like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.Whoever welcomes one such child in my name welcomes me.

Week of October 1, Galatians 3:25-29, Be a Vision of Faith!
But now that faith has come, we are no longer subject to a disciplinarian, for in Christ Jesus you are all children of God through faith. As many of you as were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ. There is no longer Jew or Greek, there is no longer slave or free, there is no longer male and female; for all of you are one in Christ Jesus. And if you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham’s offspring, heirs according to the promise.

Week of October 8, 1 John 3:18-23, Be a Vision of Truth and Action!
Little children, let us love, not in word or speech, but in truth and action. And by this we will know that we are from the truth and will reassure our hearts before him whenever our hearts condemn us; for God is greater than our hearts, and he knows everything. Beloved, if our hearts do not condemn us, we have boldness before God; and we receive from him whatever we ask, because we obey his commandments and do what pleases him. And this is his commandment, that we should believe in the name of his Son Jesus Christ and love one another, just as he has commanded us.

Week of October 15, Jeremiah 29:11-14, Be a Vision that Seeks and Finds!
For surely I know the plans I have for you, says the Lord, plans for your welfare and not for harm, to give you a future with hope. Then when you call upon me and come and pray to me, I will hear you. When you search for me, you will find me; if you seek me with all your heart, I will let you find me, says the Lord, and I will restore your fortunes and gather you from all the nations and all the places where I have driven you, says the Lord, and I will bring you back to the place from which I sent you into exile.
